BITE Project Blog: Journey through Research and Methodology Development
Building Lasting Social Change Through Data-Based Actions
At BITE - Boosting Inclusion through Employability, our primary goal is to improve the integration and employability of young migrants and refugees. Our first major milestone, the research phase (February 2025 - July 2025), was carried out in a comprehensive and multi-layered way.
Why Research?
Every strong solution starts with a solid understanding of current needs and challenges. That’s why, as the first phase of our project, we conducted surveys and focus groups with key stakeholders—young migrants and refugees, youth workers, and employers.
How Did the Research Phase Progress?
402 total surveys were distributed among youth, youth workers, and employers.
Two focus groups per country (Spain, Portugal, Italy, and Norway) with young refugees, youth workers, and employers.
Surveys and focus group discussions were designed to be culturally sensitive and multilingual.
The data collected uncovered the real obstacles faced by young people, practical needs of youth workers, and expectations of employers.
Methodology & Toolkit: Participatory and Practical Solutions
Our findings directly inspired the methodology and toolkit we are developing. From August to November 2025, we will launch the “Methodology and Toolkit for Youth Workers”:
Methodology: An employability-focused education model enabling youth workers to better engage and support young migrants and refugees. The model will feature sample learning pathways and practical implementation scenarios.
Toolkit for Youth Workers: A digital package including “knowledge nuggets” (videos), practical tips, and success stories.
Toolkit for Employers: Practical, legal, and inclusive approaches for employers looking to hire migrant youth, compiled in a special digital document.
Participation and Field Expertise
While developing the methodology, the project will focus on feedback from the field. Each partner’s experience, good practices, and national regulations will be included. This strong foundation ensures the project’s sustainable impact.
Conclusion: From Data to Solution
Innovation in BITE starts with participatory research and on-the-ground analysis. By actively involving young refugees, youth workers, and employers, we are building a methodology that is inclusive, practical, and designed for long-term impact.
