Launching the VITALITY Project: Empowering Women’s Health and Resilience Across Europe
We are glad to announce that FURIM Institutt has officially received funding from the European Commission through the Erasmus+ Sport 2025 programme for our new project — “Strengthening Disadvantaged Women’s Health and Resilience via Culturally Adapted Physical Activity Toolkit (VITALITY)”.
This milestone marks the beginning of an ambitious and meaningful European initiative designed to empower women from low-income, migrant, and refugee backgrounds by helping them build healthier, more active, and more resilient lives.
🌍 Why VITALITY?
Across Europe, millions of women face multiple barriers that prevent them from participating in physical activity. These barriers are often economic, cultural, or social in nature — limited access to affordable fitness programs, language barriers, cultural expectations, or a lack of inclusive spaces.
The consequences are profound: lower physical activity rates, increased risk of health problems, and reduced overall well-being. VITALITY steps in as an innovative response to this challenge — turning physical activity into an accessible, culturally adapted, and empowering experience for all women.
What the Project Aims to Achieve
VITALITY is more than a health project — it is a movement for inclusion, empowerment, and community building.
The project’s core objectives include:
🏃♀️ Raising physical literacy and awareness among sedentary women by providing accessible and culturally adapted resources.
🤝 Building community support systems through in-person workshops, peer-to-peer networks, and online engagement platforms.
📚 Developing a multilingual physical literacy toolkit, including easy-to-follow exercise guides, traditional movement practices, and well-being resources.
🌱 Promoting sustainable health habits, combining physical activity with mindfulness and mental well-being practices.
🧭 Strengthening local collaborations to ensure long-term impact beyond the project’s lifetime.
The project is deeply aligned with EU health and inclusion priorities, including the HealthyLifestyle4All initiative, the EU Gender Equality Strategy, and the Council Recommendation on Health-Enhancing Physical Activity (HEPA).
A Partnership Built on Diversity and Strength
VITALITY is powered by a strong and complementary consortium:
🇳🇴 FURIM Institutt (Coordinator – Norway): bringing expertise in social innovation, inclusive sport education, and research-based health promotion.
🇵🇱 MOBAD (Partner – Poland): contributing deep grassroots engagement strategies and practical field experience in community sport.
🇹🇷 Wellnesstech (Partner – Türkiye): integrating digital tools, mindfulness components, and interactive learning resources.
Together, these partners form a transnational alliance committed to creating real, measurable impact on women’s health and resilience across Europe.
How VITALITY Will Make a Difference
Through the combination of digital innovation and community-driven actions, VITALITY will:
Provide culturally sensitive physical activity solutions tailored to women’s needs.
Reach women who are often excluded from mainstream fitness opportunities.
Offer low-cost, accessible exercise options that don’t require expensive equipment.
Build peer-support networks that encourage sustainable change.
Inspire more inclusive policies and community practices around physical activity.
VITALITY will also contribute to broader EU objectives on gender equality, health equity, and social inclusion, creating a ripple effect that goes beyond the project itself.
What’s Next?
The project will roll out over the next two years with activities including:
Local and international workshops,
Digital campaign launches,
Toolkit development and pilot testing,
Peer network creation,
Policy engagement for sustainable impact.
Each phase will involve close collaboration with communities to ensure that the solutions developed are relevant, accessible, and lasting.
