FIT Football Project Takes Innovative Steps with Meeting Held in Murcia
Murcia, 7 October 2024 – The FIT Football project, funded by the European Union and aimed at providing innovative solutions in football training, has successfully completed its 2nd transnational meeting in Murcia, Spain, hosted by UCAM. This project seeks to enhance the skills and profiles of grassroots football coaches by transferring advanced methods and knowledge from professional football to lower levels. It also focuses on fitness coaching, with the goal of improving coaches’ employment prospects and their competitiveness in the market.
Partners from various institutions, such as UCAM, FURIM, NYSA, ICCE, and SAGENE IF, gathered to discuss the project’s progress and future strategies. The meeting highlighted efforts to adhere strictly to academic standards and implement innovative training practices.
One of the main topics on the agenda was the presentation of a draft course programme prepared by FURIM, which included feedback from football professionals. This feedback underscored the importance of integrating age-specific training needs and scientific findings with practical training modules.
The project also focuses on developing innovative training materials and flexible learning methods designed to improve coaching skills, thereby increasing coaches’ adaptability and competitiveness in the job market. In this regard, the development of a gamification-based web platform and mobile application was also discussed.
The next stages of the FIT Football project promise to boost coaches' motivation and foster a passion for sport among young athletes through scientifically-backed, inclusive programmes. The upcoming project meeting is scheduled for May 2025, to be hosted by ICCE in Leeds.
