FUTURECOACH: Empowering Sports Coaches with Cutting-Edge Technology
FUTURECOACH is an innovative Erasmus+ initiative designed to bridge the gap between technology and coaching practices in Europe. Through research, development, and pilot testing, the project equips coaches with digital skills, practical resources, and mobile tools to enhance their effectiveness and promote inclusive, data-driven athlete development.

Background

The FUTURECOACH project aligns with key Erasmus+ priorities such as innovation in vocational education, addressing digital transformation, and adapting VET to labor market needs. Coaches, as central figures in the sports ecosystem, require upskilling to meet the demands of an increasingly digital sports industry.

Despite technological advancements in sports science, many coaching professionals still lack access to practical digital tools and training. FUTURECOACH addresses this by empowering coaches with AI, mobile platforms, data analytics, and wearables, enabling smarter coaching decisions and more inclusive participation.

The project prioritizes accessibility—developing resources tailored to underrepresented groups, including women in sports, coaches from rural areas, and professionals affected by conflict, such as displaced Ukrainian coaches. By reducing entry barriers, the project promotes a fairer and more modern coaching landscape.

Research & Needs Analysis

Conduct a comprehensive study of cutting-edge technologies (AI, AR/VR, big data, apps) in coach education and their real-world applicability. Engage over 100 coaches and 10+ experts through surveys and interviews to define real needs and opportunities.

Digital Resource Development

Build inclusive and practical educational materials, e-learning modules, and an intuitive mobile application. These resources aim to reach a broad spectrum of coaches, including those with limited prior tech exposure.

Pilot Testing & Feedback

Deliver a pilot phase with at least 50 coaches to test the effectiveness of tools and measure improvements in coaching performance and athlete outcomes, with a target of 20% performance increase and 85%+ usability satisfaction.

OVERALL OBJECTIVE

To improve coaching performance and athlete development through the integration of cutting-edge technologies in coach education and training.

The purpose of the project is:

To create inclusive, accessible, and innovative educational materials and tools that help coaches across Europe adopt technology and meet modern demands in sports coaching.

General Objectives

• Conduct in-depth research and release a comprehensive report on the current state of tech in coaching within the first 6 months, identifying best practices and future trends.

• Develop and deliver an innovative training program and mobile app for coaches, designed with a minimum 85% usability score and tested by professionals.

• Complete pilot testing with at least 50 coaches and 200 athletes, achieving a measurable 20% improvement in coaching performance indicators within 12 months.
