Programme: Erasmus+ KA220-ADU, Cooperation Partnerships in Adult Education
Project period: 1 October 2025 to 30 September 2026

Confidence to take part in a digital world

Knowing how to use a digital tool is only part of the picture. People also need the confidence to question it, make informed choices and use it with others.

DCE is a European cooperation project that connects digital citizenship, adult learning and the responsible use of artificial intelligence. It helps educators turn emerging technology into practical learning experiences, with critical thinking, inclusion and human judgement at their centre.

Through international Prompt-a-thons, collaborative design and research, partners develop teaching approaches and reusable resources for adult education. The project draws inspiration from the Council of Europe’s European Year of Digital Citizenship Education 2025 and the EU’s ethical guidance on AI and data in education.

Who is it for?

Adult educators and trainers, adult learners, civil society organisations, digital inclusion practitioners and education researchers.

Four ideas. One connected learning journey.

  • Learn: Build digital and AI literacy through hands-on experimentation, better prompts and critical evaluation of AI-generated information.

  • Connect: Bring people, generations and communities together through inclusive digital participation and collaboration across borders.

  • Engage: Explore how AI can support civic participation, democratic dialogue and accountable behaviour in online spaces.

  • Thrive: Strengthen digital wellbeing, resilience and the ability to keep learning as technology changes everyday life.

Our goal: strengthen educators’ digital and ethical competences, test inclusive learning methods and share practical resources that other organisations can adapt.

Three countries. Learning through doing.

International teams bring real educational challenges, experiment with AI and turn their ideas into concepts and prototypes.

Learn, Sofia, Bulgaria | 24–27 April 2026

The first Prompt-a-thon introduced participants to AI prompting and design thinking, building a shared foundation for applying AI in adult education. Hosted by Expert Pool, Bulgaria.

Connect, Oslo, Norway | 16–19 June 2026

FURIM brought the partnership together to explore digital inclusion and community. Teams tested AI tools, developed learning ideas and reflected on responsible use. Hosted by FURIM Institutt.

Engage, Sicily, Italy | 27–31 July 2026

The final learning activity explored civic engagement through AI-supported gamification, collaborative design and educational experiences that participants could adapt to their own contexts. Hosted by Way SAS di Teruko Kominato.

What is a Prompt-a-thon?

A collaborative learning sprint where participants use AI prompting and design thinking to address a real challenge. Teams define a need, develop ideas, test a concept and share what they learn, with space to question accuracy, inclusion and ethics throughout.

FURIM’s role: connecting people, ideas and practice in Oslo

As the Norwegian partner, FURIM Institutt led the Connect Prompt-a-thon, creating a space for educators from three countries to exchange perspectives and test AI in real learning situations.

  • Host and facilitate the Norwegian learning activity.

  • Contribute expertise to the self-assessment methodology and evaluation.

  • Share project learning through education and digital literacy networks in Scandinavia.

How the work is organised

  • WP1, Project management: Coordination, quality assurance, reporting and partnership communication, led by Expert Pool.

  • WP2, European Prompt-a-thon, Bulgaria: The Learn activity, led by Expert Pool.

  • WP3, European Prompt-a-thon, Norway: The Connect activity, led by FURIM Institutt.

  • WP4, European Prompt-a-thon, Italy: The Engage activity, led by Way SAS.

  • WP5, Ethical use of AI and data: Assessment, practical guidance and research, led by Expert Pool with contributions from all partners.

People at the centre of digital learning. Real conversations and shared experiments turn abstract ideas about AI into experiences educators can use.

Project Results

Learning that can travel beyond the room

The output programme brings together practical methods, self-reflection and research for adult education organisations.

Co-creative Prompt-a-thon handbook

A methodology for planning and facilitating AI-supported learning sprints, drawing on design thinking and the Design, Play, Change approach.

Self-assessment tool (SAT)

A research-informed tool to help educators and adult learners reflect on digital competences, citizenship and ethical judgement when using AI.

Practical guide to ethical AI

Guidance and examples for responsible AI use in education, addressing transparency, fairness, data protection and human oversight.

Final impact report

Findings from the project’s activities and assessment work, with recommendations for sustainable AI integration in adult learning.

Resource access: These are the resources set out in the project plan. For published versions, language availability and access, contact FURIM. Project materials are intended for open access and reuse.

Objectives and intended impact

  • 36+ participant places targeted across the events.

  • Three international Prompt-a-thons in Bulgaria, Norway and Italy.

  • 80% target for participants finding the events useful.

The project aims to help educators use AI with greater confidence and ethical awareness, improve inclusion in adult learning and build cooperation across the three partner countries.

Progress is assessed through participant feedback, self-assessment before and after activities, and review of the solutions and resources developed. The figures above are project targets, not audited final results.

Who can use the project’s learning?

Adult education providers, trainers, community organisations and digital inclusion practitioners can adapt the approaches to their own learning settings. The project plans open educational resources and materials in partner languages to support wider use.
